Accessible Forms Add-on
To make forms available to users with visual disabilities, our Accessibility module converts existing forms into a simplified text only format.
The accessible text only forms have been designed to make form filling as easy as possible for visually impaired users.
For users with a partial visual impairment who struggle to read conventional forms:
- On screen text is made much larger.
- Complex layout is greatly simplified, so that questions only appear one line at a time.
- By eliminating columns from the page, text can be greatly magnified, without forcing the user to constantly scroll across the page.
- Font colours are chosen for their readability.
For users with acute visual impairment a toggle button further optimises the form for screen reading software. Additional instructions then appear on screen. These instructions are read aloud by screen readers and provide additional guidance.
To minimise the amount of information on screen (or read aloud) intelligent display of questions is used – depending on previous answers given, questions will only be displayed if relevant to the user. The form grows and shrinks text as the user fills it in.
Often a “one size fits all” is inappropriate – for example requesting that a blind user prints out, fills and signs a direct debit sub form would be inappropriate. With the Victoria Forms design software, at design time additional modifications to forms can be made so that its presentation and behaviour will differ between the standard version and the same version used by visually impaired users. For example a blind user will be offered assistance by a welfare officer.
On submission, data is extracted from the accessible form. For subsequent processing Enterprise Forms Server then populates the standard version of forms for printing, or converting to an image file. Accessible forms may therefore be processed in exactly the same way as other forms. For audit purposes, form data from an accessible form may be viewed in the original accessible form.
Product Fit
For users with visual disability, our e-forms can be presented in a format which is designed to make forms as easy as possible to use.
